How to Rebuild your life for Purpose

Rebuilding is such an important piece of living a life full of purpose. The key to rebuilding ANYTHING is obedience. Obedience in the Hebrew translates to sha.ma, which means to hear, to listen, to obey and it is in the bible 1,070 times. Obedience is imperative to your rebuilding. It is the practice of making up your mind that you are going to:

  • Hear what God is saying, which requires you to be in the vicinity of God.

  • Listen to what God is saying, which will require you to give your full attention. This means to stop what you are saying/doing because you know that what God is saying/calling you to do is more important than what you are currently doing and or thinking.

  • Obey what God has commanded and behave in accordance with what God has directed you to do. This will require you to put God’s commands and directions about your life over your own.

Think of it like this. When you grab a piece of furniture from Ikea and you are building it, you should make sure that you have the directions AND manual. The directions tell you how to do something or in which order to do something. Moreover, the manual ensures the proper use of the product.

God is your manufacturer. God, himself, produced you from the rawest and truest materials, which are his words. Therefore, He not only knows how you are to be built in your purpose but also the order in which it is to happen, He is your directions. That is not it, God also ensures that your purpose is fulfilled, He is also your manual.

Directions give you:

1. A Visual

As a believer, the visual that God gave us is Jesus. If you are looking for a visual.

If you are looking for what the finished product of your life/your purpose should

look like, look to Jesus.

1 Colossians 1:15 "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation."

John 1:14 "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the

glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

2. A route/logical steps

As a believer, God gives you the route so we don't have to worry about leaving

anything out. The route is through Jesus. Through His words. Through His Life.

Through His sacrifice. Through His love. This will take you forsaking the route and

or steps that you think are best and looking, clinging, and believing the steps/route

directed by Jesus. In order to follow someone's steps, you need to be close to them.

John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes

to the Father except through me."

3. A checkpoint

As a believer, God provides you with checkpoints as evidence that you are abiding in

your purpose. This evidence comes in the form of the fruit of the Spirit. When you

are abiding in your purpose it will produce fruit.

Galations 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,

goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

4. A starting point and destination

As a believer, God provides you with a starting point and ending point. He gives your

purpose a begining and He concludes it.

Revelation 1:8 "“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who

is to come, the Almighty.”

Manual gives you:

  1. A physical manual

The bible. The bible is a tool used to give you instructions for EVERY area of your life.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for

reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be

competent, equipped for every good work."

2. The functions of the product and what they are used for

The bible tells you your purpose, your gifts, and who they are to be used for.

1 Peter 4:10 "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of

God's varied grace:"

All in all, when you are building your product from Ikea together so that it can serve its intended purpose you keep the directions as well as the manual close. The same with you. You are the product of the one true living God. Make sure that as you are rebuilding, you keep the directions and the manual, God, right by your side.
